The Student Nutrition Access Program (SNAP) is launching a delivery service for its food hampers to students with physical mobility impairment disabilities and students who are in isolation or self-quarantine due to COVID-19. The delivery service will be provided in partnership with the Toronto Bike Brigade, a team of volunteer cyclists who serve isolated and vulnerable people during COVID-19.
This program is available to students who are currently enrolled this semester and have successfully completed registration with the SNAP Hamper/Pantry program.
Students must also fall within one or more of the following parameters to be eligible for the delivery service:
- Physical Mobility Impairment Disability
- A category of disability that includes various types of physical disabilities. Disability in mobility may be congenital, or a result of injury, or the result of a diagnosed medical condition or medical procedure. Persons with physical impairment disabilities often use assistive devices or mobility aids such as crutches, canes, wheelchairs, and artificial limbs to achieve or increase mobility.
- Self-quarantine/Self-isolating/self-isolation
- Staying at home and avoiding contact with other people due to one of the following:
- Recently returned within the last 7 days from traveling outside of Ontario or Canada
- Showing or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19
- Have tested positive for COVID-19
- Had close contact with someone who has or is suspected to have COVID-19
- Have been advised by public health that you may have been exposed and need to quarantine (self-isolate)
- Staying at home and avoiding contact with other people due to one of the following:
Individuals who participate will be requested to provide documentation to confirm that they fall under one or both of these parameters. Please note that your participation in this service is completely voluntary.
Delivery is available in Toronto only and will take place only on Thursdays. The service is provided to eligible students living as far north as Eglington Avenue and O’Connor Drive, as far west as Runnymeade Road, as far east as Victoria Park Avenue and as far south as the lakefront.
