UPDATE: A potential strike which would have seen the city come to a halt has been staved off.
Just past midnight on June. 7, the TTC and ATU Local 113, announced that the framework for a deal between the transit service and union representing more than 11,500 operators, had been reached.
Details of the deal have not been released, but the union noted on June. 6 that their demands included more money, benefits and job security.
Any plans to mitigate the impact to students have been put on hold, and the Student Association and college are open as normal.
With a strike looming, please see below for GBC’s response and plans if a TTC strike were to occur.
Dear GBC Community,
As many of you may be aware, there is a possibility of a of a TTC strike this week. While negotiations are ongoing, it is important for us to be prepared for the potential impact this strike could have at GBC.
All classes, labs and student services will continue to be available, though they may be delivered in alternate formats. More details will be provided if changes occur. We encourage all students, faculty, and staff to plan ahead and explore alternative transportation options now in the event of a TTC strike or reduced service. Carpooling, cycling, and utilizing other public transit services are some alternatives to consider. Additionally, we recommend staying informed through official TTC communications and news updates to adjust your travel plans accordingly.
Convocation ceremonies will proceed as planned. In the event of a strike on or after June 7, we will apprise graduating students promptly so students and their families can adjust travel plans and attend the ceremonies with minimal disruptions.
Please stay updated by checking your GBC email, STU-VIEW, [http://gbc%20website/]GBC website and our social channels for any developments regarding the strike and its potential impact on classes and GBC services. We will be sharing further details late Thursday afternoon.
