GBC staff and students should be aware of a recent phishing email which came from an internal source.
An email from a GBC user with the subject line “PROJECT PROPOSAL” began to circulate Aug. 25, 2022. Those who received it were asked to follow a link and enter their credentials.
This email does not steal data, however, upon entering their credentials those user’s emails were compromised. Once compromised, the original phishing email was sent to all contacts.
This has caused interruption with emails and requires a mandatory password reset. The SAGBC’s IT is currently working on improving email security, with updates expected to be deployed by the end of September.
The Student Association encourages staff and students to never give out their personal or login information – especially if you believe the email may be a fake. Those who receive emails from unknown sources should NOT open them, nor should they click on any links.
Students are advised to always hover their mouse pointer over a link to see where it leads. Links with HTTPS in the URL are always secure.
If you believe your email has been the victim of a hack or phishing scam, please reset your password.
