SafeWalk
“Why walk alone? Walk with us!”
SafeWalk provides free walk accompaniment to students, staff, and visitors of the George Brown College community. We walk on-campus and off-campus up to 2 kilometres. It is an initiative of the Student Association of George Brown College.
We are available for walks at St James (200 King St E), Hospitality Building (300 Adelaide St. E), Casa Loma (160 Kendal Ave.), and Waterfront (51 Dockside Dr.) We are stationed by the college’s welcome desks (look for our banner). You can also flag us down any time when on patrol in our yellow SafeWalk vests to get a walk.
We will not be operating at Daniels WF this year – if you need a walk from there, call, text, or WhatsApp us at 1-888-210-7233 during our open hours.
The service is available Monday to Friday starting at 6:45 p.m. The service does not operate during the winter break, spring break (late April, early May) and summer break (late August, early September), and any other days the college is closed.
NOTE: If you are on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus, contact TMU Security (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) at 416-979-5040 (internal phones 55040), or email them at walksafe@ryerson.ca.
SafeWalk staff work in pairs to complete walks within a 2-kilometre radius from campus with any student, staff or visitor of the college. SafeWalk staff have extensive training in First Aid, CPR, AED, consent, sexual assault awareness, how to respond to a sexual violence disclosure on campus, Naloxone administration, and Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB).
SafeWalk staff also promote safety awareness. SafeWalk is a pro-active safety measure that improves campus life by creating a safer environment for all.
Staff also conduct nightly safety audits of the campuses, helping to ensure safer spaces for all.
